WE HAVE A SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Monday, February 16 we became the parents of this amazing, beautiful baby boy!

We were eating a late breakfast together on a holiday morning when we got the call from Mary at Holt International, our adoption agency, saying we had a son! We weren’t expecting that phone call for a couple more months, so we were wonderfully surprised, and the photos and abundance of information that followed via email have instilled unparalleled joy in our lives this week. Here’s more on this new life-changing addition to our lives:

  • His Korean name is Tae-gyu which means “beautiful star” (thus the title of this blog). We think, of course, that he truly is a beautiful star!

  • We’ll keep his Korean name as a middle name, though we’re still deciding on his first name – watch for another blog post!

  • He was born on August 31, 2008 in Gumi City, South Korea and now lives with a wonderful foster family of four in Seoul.

  • We now start the process of legalizing his adoption in both the U.S. and South Korea which will take 3-6 months. When all the paperwork has been completed, we’ll get a call saying we need to be in Seoul in 2 weeks – so we’ll have our bags packed and ready to go!

  • When we travel to Seoul to receive him sometime this summer we’ll be there only a few days. We’ll use this blog to post photos and stories of our journey to bring him home to us, his forever family.

  • We feel blessed that he is healthy and strong. We received a good amount of medical information on him and he has reached all normal developmental milestones. These photos were taken when he was only 3 ½ weeks old – he’s a healthy, big kiddo! We’ve requested more recent photos, too, and will post them when we receive them.

  • We are, in a word, completely in love with him. How very blessed we feel. Now we tackle the long list of “things we want to do before the baby comes” and try to see as many movies, read as many books, and get as much sleep as possible before our little one comes home!

Thank you so much for journeying with us as we’ve been waiting for this news. We look forward to you continuing the journey as we bring him home!
